Park. Village – Housing on a parking lot

The Danish Planning Act now allows the construction of temporary student housing for a period of up to 10 years.

This opportunity should be used to build housing above existing parking areas – while retaining the parking spaces.

We propose a structural concept in concrete or steel, anchored with demountable ground anchors to support the housing units above.

These units are envisioned as box modules or repurposed containers, with shared facilities placed at the top of the building, away from the cars and up in the light.

Each dwelling features a ceiling height of 3 metres, an integrated sleeping loft and a small kitchen. Eight units share a larger communal kitchen and living space on the upper level.

Access is provided via shared access decks, with the option of connecting a lift. However, this is not a requirement, as access to the units begins on the first floor. As a rule of thumb, it is possible to establish two student units per existing parking space when building up to four storeys.
